Loving This Hate (Mail)

Another AwardWinning Comedy for local theatre fans!
Heres the press release…
Carpenter Square Theatre presents Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore’s “You’ve Got Hate Mail” May 20-June 4. The “broadband” comedy about love, lies and laptops performs at the Bricktown Hotel and Convention Center, located at 2001 E. Reno at the intersection of Reno and Martin Luther King. Playgoers may exit I-40 at Eastern/M.L. King and proceed north on M.L. King.

In “You’ve Got Hate Mail,” love “bytes” all when an extra-marital affair goes horribly wrong, thanks to a juicy e-mail left sitting on an office desktop. The story unfolds through e-mails from laptop computers, although the play still manages to create an unforgettable chase scene via cell phones.

Attorney Richard is in the midst of a torrid affair with Wanda, a young lady in his office. Between rendezvous in the elevator and the fourth floor restroom, their sexy emails fly back and forth on the internet. When Richard’s wife tries out her new laptop, she interrupts their binary repartee one afternoon. In the midst of zipping back and forth between emails from the two ladies, Richard mistakenly sends his wife a lusty message intended for his lover, and the cyber mayhem ensues. Almost immediately, the couple’s friends, George and Peg, get involved, which only complicates matters more. The audience should be LOL (that is, laughing out loud) as the story escalates into a comic free-for-all with a surprise ending.

Rhonda Clark directs a powerhouse ensemble of five area actors. Mike Waugh appears as the two-timing Richard, with Renée Preftakes as his sheltered, suburban housewife. Nick Backes and Linda McDonald are the couple’s meddling best friends, and TooToo Cirlot is the sassy mistress. The technical direction is by Caleb Schnackenberg with lighting design by Scott Hynes.

Specific performance dates and times are: May 20-21 at 8 p.m., May 26 at 7:30 p.m., May 27-28 at 8 p.m., May 29 at 2 p.m., June 2 at 7:30 p.m., June 3-4 at 8 p.m.

Opening night theatergoers on May 20 are invited to a post-show party with complimentary food and a cash bar. Special two-for-one ticket prices are offered on May 26 and June 2.

“You’ve Got Hate Mail” is supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts and the Allied Arts Foundation. Paul and Janet Weigel are the opening night party sponsors. The Bricktown Hotel & Convention Center serves as co-producer for the production.

This show is rated PG-13 due to strong language and suggestive sexual references. For more information and tickets, call the Carpenter Square Theatre box office at 405-232-6500 or visit online at http://www.carpentersquare.com.
