OU Welcomes Record Frosh Class

From Press Release
NORMAN – This year’s University of Oklahoma freshman class is the largest freshman class in state history at a four-year public university and the largest in OU history, OU President David L. Boren announced today at New Sooner Convocation. Academically, it is also the highest ranked freshman class in OU history and in state history at a public university with an average 26.1 ACT for incoming freshmen. OU’s fall 2011 freshman class enrollment of more than 4,000 reflects a dramatic increase from the entering class of 1995, which enrolled 2,600 students. It also breaks the previous record of 3,865 freshmen set in 2007.
“OU’s reputation for academic excellence is clearly continuing to grow and it is the major factor in attracting the largest freshman class in state history,” Boren said. “It is noteworthy that the largest freshman class also has the highest average ACT score in OU history.”
Boren also noted the freshman class maintains OU’s No. 1 position in the nation in the number of freshman National Merit Scholars enrolled at a public university, with 207 freshman National Merit Scholars. A total of more than 700 National Merit Scholars are enrolled at OU for the 2011-2012 academic year.
This year’s freshman class also has more than 300 State Regents Scholars, those who rank in the top one-half of 1 percent in the nation in test scores, and more than 510 came from high school with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
