96 Rock – What Radio Used To Be

I grew up in Tucker, Georgia listening to 96Rock. It was where I recorded albums on my 8-track on Sunday night’s 96 Rock Album Hour (Where I first heard “Boston” and others). Many of the people on this historic replay of the 96Rock revolution later would become friends and mentors. Don Kennedy (Officer Don on WSB when I was a kid) was my first GM/ND at Georgia Network. He taught me how to clip reel tape and record commercials. You’ll also see Jim Huber, arguably the finest sports broadcast commentator I have ever heard who later was a mentor at CNN. A fine man, beautiful artist and happy spirit, Jim passed away this past month after illness, so it was nice to hear his melodious voice telling stories.

Even if you didn’t grow up in Atlanta listening to 96Rock, you grew up listening to some place special that may have had a history like this one.
