Veteran Sportscaster Jim Henderson Bidding Farewell to WWL: ‘The Business Has Gotten Tougher’ – TVSpy

In the late 70’s, before he left Atlanta for New Orleans, Jim Henderson attended a career day at Tucker High School. It was my first discussion of any length with a sportscaster. He was encouraging and funny, realistic and matter of fact and over the years, when occasionally communicating with him as an industry colleague, I recounted his encouragement and the lessons learned.
In the attached article it may indicate Henderson is stepping away from a fight, but the truth is, he has repeatedly won the fight and has earned and secured the right to retire. I’m sure he would charge on if he were a young sportscaster, and I implore those who see his retirement to not consider it a white flag, butu a gold watch well deserved.
There is a place for the Jim Hendersons of the industry, then, now and in the future.
I’ll keep listening to his Saints calls on the radio and remember fondly his encouraging words to a teenager.
