Ten legs to sunset, finale: Sand in the paws

There are certain places that calm us, certain vibes that refresh and connect us. For me that has always been where I can watch the sun circle overhead and splash in slow motion into a far-away sea. Our kids don’t always love the things we do, but my daughter Nicole certainly shares my affection for the ocean.

It turns out our dogs do, too. Murphy and Billy are Okies by birth. They lived the first six or so years of their lives in the Sooner state…. and another on The Plains in Alabama. But when we arrived to California to reconnect with our family, who knew if they would find the same joy in splashing in the surf that I do? Our first night – as you can see in this picture – Murphy and Billy had some ‘justin’ to do. Nearby Disneyland’s fireworks – combined with the 4th of July fireworks illegally shot off in the neighborhood – sent Murphy hopping into Grandma Weber’s lap. Billy just laughed inside.

Murphy Weber jumps into Grandma Weber's laugh as his little brother Billy looks on. No alcohol was consumed by the dogs, despite the image.

But when we visited the Huntington Beach Dog Beach the day after our arrival, my wonder was fulfilled and all jumpiness was for joy. Paw-Paw Weber went along, too. You be the judge. I think we’re home to stay.

Thanks to all who shared the legs of this journey to this point… and for those of you who have made life so grand to this point for all of us Webers – including the four-legged ones… and yours truly, leading our ten legs to sunset once again.
