What’s interesting to me is that I meet some folks, maybe just starting out as hikers or just trying to get out for a little adventure, and they say: I stopped before I got all the way there. Never, ever stop before the payoff, as long as you’re healthy. The hike to Whiskeytown Falls is a short hike up, of course, about 1.6, and yes, it’s up so challenging if you’re not doing much working out. But on the video I post on my YouTube channel, you see what you’re missing from that picnic table on. The last quarter mile is the payoff. https://youtu.be/lhGMknqpPSA
Actually, it’s a new hike almost every time it seems. The Carr Fire did hellish damage to human existence in the area, but Mother Nature knows what she’s doing and the folks at Whiskeytown NRA do, too, in bringing her back.
Now you can really see things you couldn’t see before, and with so much greenery popping up, and the weather so perfect (not too hot yet), this is a great daily workout if you can handle it.
There are so many things I’m seeing now that were too hidden from view when I first started coming here, and the dogs love it of course. I don’t go up the final stairway to heaven when the dogs are with me, because they’re getting older and their footing isn’t so great.
But this is a beautiful hike, and we vow to keep it safe and clean and precious as long as we are here. Please do the same!
